Asphalt Equipment - Asphalt
Asphalt used in Paving
The asphalt material using in paving is called Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) and contains a binder of bitumen which allows it to sustain plastic deformation.
Asphalt is fairly durable and flexible although fatigue results from repeated heavy loading.
Asphalt uses bitumen, a petroleum product, to glue together sand and crushed rock. This mixture is heated to approximately 300 degrees at the asphalt plant. At the construction site, workers spread and compact the hot mixture onto the roadbed.
